The GameCube is Nintendo’s first entry into the 6th generation of video game consoles. It is the successor of the Nintendo 64. The GameCube was a competitor to the PlayStation 2 from Sony, PlayStation 2, and Microsoft’s Xbox.
The GameCube is the first Nintendo console that uses optical discs as the principal storage device. The discs are the miniDVD format, but it was not intended to play full-sized DVDs and audio CDs like its rivals which are primarily focused on gaming. The console can play limited online gaming in a tiny selection of games through a GameCube broadband adapter or modem and connects to a Game Boy Advance with a link cable that allows gamers to enjoy exclusive game features by using it as a secondary screen as a controller. It also allowed gamers to play games like Tingle Tuner in Tingle Tuner in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker as well as other features. The GameCube is a Nintendo home console that was released in 2001. The Gameboy player attachment allows it to play games from other consoles like the older versions of its own systems, such as; Super Mario 64 DS and Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver Versions. It can also connect with controllers designed for use with these respective games; however, nothing past 1999’s Link Between Worlds will work due to backward compatibility issues.
The GameCube features two memory card ports for saving game data. Nintendo released three options: Memory Card 59 in gray (512 KB), a black 2 MB version, and a white 8 MB variant that was only made available through third-party manufacturers.
A few games have compatibility issues with the Memory Cards 1019 or 16MB but thankfully there’s an easily fixable solution by formatting your save file before removing any of these cards from play.
